2016 ICCM Americas Workshops

POST-CONFERENCE
Basic Linux Workshop

Tim Young

(Tuesday afternoon through Thursday morning after the General Conference Sessions)

The LightSys Basic Linux Workshop covers the initial install decisions (what distro, how to partition your computer, etc) and then gives you experience in managing a Linux box. It covers basic service management, as well as an in-depth look at file-sharing, email server management and web-server management. Usually, the most useful part of the workshop is the backup / recovery session. We backup your virtual computer, destroy it, and then rebuild it from backup. By the time you are done, you are much more confident in your skills as a Linux admin.

POST-CONFERENCE
SQL Queries

Paul Nielsen

(Tuesday afternoon through Thursday morning after the General Conference Sessions)

Regardless of your programming language or database of choice, developing a data-centric application requires knowing SQL. In this post-con, Paul will walk through the essential SQL query skills you need as a developer from select and join, to recursive functions. Whether you’re a database newbie, or just want to polish your skills, this workshop is for you. This workshop is for those designing databases or writing queries, not for day-to-day database administrators. We expect a handful to 10 attendees so we can take the time to tailor the content to those attending.
